In the recent past, one can notice a large shift
in Valay Shende’s artistic vision. While once, he
was focused on depicting the daily struggles
of an everyday man, he has now set his sights
on lighter themes. His works from recent years
are a celebration of nature and its plethora of
creatures, showcased in bold colours and metallic
hues. He depicts wildlife often through his life-
size sculptures, bringing life to these animals
through his exploration of both the physical and
metaphysical. The medium’s constricting nature
does not hold the artist back from creating
impressively realistic works depicting creations
of nature such as rhinos, peacocks and goats.
The painstaking construction process involves
individually welding each disc to the other.
The meticulous nature of the process lends to
Shende’s distinct visual language.
