                                                                     Born in Nagpur in 1980, Valay Shende is an
                                                                     eminent sculptor and video artist who has made
                                                                     an indelible mark in contemporary Indian art. He
                                                                     gained a Diploma in Art Education in 2000 in
                                                                     Nagpur and went on to receive a BFA in Sculpture
                                                                     from the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, in 2004.
                                                                     In 2006, he was part of an artist residency at the
                                                                     Open Air Program, Point Ephemere, Paris. He is
                                                                     endlessly inspired by his surroundings, nature
                                                                     and the plight of the members of today’s highly
                                                                     urbanised society, especially migrant workers.
                                                                     Utilising both video and sculpture, he often creates
                                                                     visually appealing installations that are not only
                                                                     one-of-a-kind but also challenge the idea of what
                                                                     a sculpture represents and the rendering process
                                                                     associated with creating one. His works have been
                                                                     lauded around the world, with exhibitions being
                                                                     held in India, China, Abu Dhabi, Korea, France, the
